September 2010
“Solo Time” is my favorite moment of YFCamp. It is scheduled after I finish speaking the fifth night. Its challenge is simple; will you respond and let Jesus restore you? This is the night I share the beautiful words found in Romans 5:8; “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
“But God…” Think about those two simple words. Separate, they don’t have much meaning. Yet, fashioned together they summarize scripture, they bring about freedom, they initiate our rescue! “But God…” means forgiveness, grace and mercy!
My life is a mess… “But God!” I have done some terrible things… “But God!” I am sinner… “But God!”
After the young people had been given their instructions for “Solo Time” they were sent outside for 30 minutes to consider their response to Jesus. The camp was quiet as the 175 young people sat under a star lit Colorado sky. Then it happened. Out from the darkness, from every corner of camp, we heard cries of “Yes!” being lifted toward heaven. All in all 23 young people said “yes” to Jesus for the very first time.
Right after I returned from YFCamp Crissie and the girls joined me at the airport to fly to San Diego for 10 days. It was a wonderfully busy time of connecting with many of our friends, family and ministry supporters. In fact we were able to visit with 55 different families, speak at two Sunday School classes at EFCC and attend the wedding of my nephew Jarrod. Yes, a very busy schedule but thankfully we were able to squeeze in a few afternoons at the beach and a day at Legoland for the girls.
The girls have started school, Taylor in 2nd grade and Madison in kindergarten. We are thrilled to have them in the same charter school. Crissie has just accepted the role of nursery director at our church in Castle Rock. We are excited to see how the Lord will use her in this leadership position.
Thank you for your continued prayers and support of our ministry with YFC/USA. We are grateful for your partnership, friendship and love.
