Favorite Stop
Growing up in San Diego and being that close to Mexico meant that I spent a great a deal of time south of the border. We would go down to camp, to surf, to shop, or even to just grab lunch. One of my favorite stops were the street taco stands in Tijuana. Oh my goodness… there is nothing like them; simple ingredients with very distinctive flavors. It’s been fifteen years since I’ve had one… fifteen long years.
David, the King, also had a favorite stop; it was the well in Bethlehem. The water from it must had been something special. It too had to have had a very distinctive taste… one that David longed to have again. Scripture tells us in 2 Samuel 23 that the King’s request of a drink from that well was heard by three of his mighty men, and they responded. Risking their own lives, sacrificing their own safety in order to infiltrate enemy territory just to satisfy what their King longed for most.
Three years ago, Dan Wolgemuth, our YFC USA President, presented this story to his cabinet while we began praying about multiplied growth in the Mission of YFC. Growth that would happen within every Chapter and Affiliate in our movement. Growth into new territory… new wells found in our neighborhoods, our schools and our institutions. Our King longs most for the sweet taste of repentance, restoration and relationship with those He loves… with kids who are within our mission; all 40 million of them.
YFC has seen incredible growth in new Affiliates just in the past few months. Programs in Washington, DC and Houston have begun as well in the months ahead programs will start in Holbrook, AZ, Leavenworth, KS and Espanola, NM. It is exciting to see these new starts! Because in every one there are “wells” to be captured. Our King thirsts for those who are lost… We must respond in a mighty way.
Last week I was again back in San Diego meeting with our YFC team there and visiting my home church family in Escondido. I spent some time introducing the new ministry growth plan to many local people. One in particular knew of my longing for street tacos… needless to say, they were as good as I remembered.
